Asymmetrical rolling is a rolling process in which the deformation conditions are asymmetrical to the horizontal center plane of the rolled piece. The deformation conditions of rolling include the external force on the metal in the deformation zone and the actual internal state of the deformed metal. The former includes the pressure of the roll, the front and rear tension or back thrust of the rolled piece, external friction and the effect of the outer area of the deformation zone, etc. The latter refers to the distribution of temperature, structure and properties of the rolled piece.
During the rolling process, since various factors have inconsistent effects on deformation in different directions, asymmetric rolling is also a common phenomenon in rolling.
Broadly speaking, the different materials of the upper and lower layers of the rolling stock (such as composite plates) and the different surface roughness of the upper and lower rollers are all asymmetric rolling.
