201 stainless steel has certain acid and alkali resistance, high density, no bubbles, no pinholes, etc. It is used to produce high-quality materials for various watch cases and watchband back covers. Mainly used to make decorative tubes, industrial tubes, and some shallow stretched products.

Development Of 200 Series Stainless Steel

200 series stainless steel was first successfully developed in the United States as a substitute for 300 series stainless steel during World War II. At that time, due to the war, nickel as a strategic material was strictly controlled by the relevant countries, and the nickel supply in the United States was seriously insufficient. In order to solve the problem of the production and supply of stainless steel in the case of a serious shortage of nickel supply, the United States has developed this new series of austenitic stainless steels with manganese instead of nickel.

After the end of World War II, the supply of nickel in the United States has gradually improved. Therefore, the production of 300 series stainless steel is no longer restricted by the shortage of raw materials, so the 200 series has not been greatly developed. Several Indians who had participated in the development of 200 series stainless steels returned to India, starting from the fact that India is relatively rich in manganese resources and lacking in nickel resources, and brought back to India the stainless steel varieties of 200 series steels developed in the United States.

The application of 200 series stainless steel in India is so successful because it is possible to replace 304 stainless steel in some specific applications.
Most of the 200 series stainless steel sold in the Chinese market has almost no control of sulfur and carbon content in accordance with national standards, and manganese (and nitrogen) is used to replace part or all of nickel to produce austenitic stainless steel with lower nickel content.

The disadvantage of this series of materials is that the chromium content of less than 18% and the low nickel content are not balanced to form ferrite. For this reason, the chromium content in the 200 series stainless steel is reduced to 13.5% to 15%. The situation has dropped to 13% to 14%, and its corrosion resistance cannot be compared with 304 and other similar steels. In addition, manganese and in some cases copper reduce the effect of repassivation under acidic conditions that are common in corrosion parts of deposition areas and crevices. The destruction rate of 200 series steel under these conditions is about 10-100 times that of 304 stainless steel. It is often impossible to control the residual sulfur content and carbon content in these steels during production, and the materials cannot be traced to the source, even in the recycling of materials. If Cr-Mn steel is not specified, they will become a dangerous mixed raw material for scrap steel, leading to unexpectedly high manganese content in castings.

The Type Of Stainless Steel 200

China mainly has the following 200 series steel grades: J1, J3, J4, 201, 202. Later, there appeared 200 grades of steel with lower nickel content control. As for 201C, it was an extension of 201 developed by individual steel plants in China at this later stage. The national standard grade of 201 is: the old grade 1Cr17Mn6Ni5N, and the new grade: 12Cr17Mn6Ni5N 201C continues to reduce the content of nickel and increase the content of manganese on the basis of 201.
