Although slag blocking measures are taken during tapping, it is difficult to completely block the high oxidizing final slag. Therefore, while improving slag blocking efficiency, ladle slag modifiers should be developed and used.
The first purpose is to reduce the oxidation of slag and reduce its pollution;
The second is to form suitable refining slag for desulfurization and absorption of floating inclusions. During the tapping process, pre melted synthetic slag is added and mixed with molten stainless steel to complete the metallurgical reaction of slag upgrading and steel desulfurization. This method is called slag dilution method. The modifier is composed of materials such as lime, fluorite, or bauxite.
Another method of slag modification is slag reduction treatment, which involves adding modifiers such as CaO+Al powder or Al+Al203+SiO2 after tapping.
The composition of stainless steel alloy-316 ladle slag after modification is: alkalinity R ≥ 2.5; W (FeO+MnO) ≤ 4%; WSi02 ≤ 10%; WCaO/wAl203=1.2 to 1.5; The desulfurization efficiency is between 30% and 40%.
The reduction of (FeO+MnO) content in ladle slag results in the formation of reducing slag, which is a refining slag with good adsorption inclusions, creating conditions for achieving the final refining effect.
