According to foreign news reports, Canyon Resources, a mining company headquartered in Perth, Australia, recently announced the signing of a strategic cooperation agreement and a memorandum of understanding with China Metallurgical Changtian International Engineering Co., Ltd. (MCC-CIE) to develop the Mini-Martap bauxite project in Cameroon .
According to documents submitted to the Australian Securities Exchange, Changtian International Engineering Company will increase its participation in the bauxite project and provide necessary support to Canyon Resources in areas such as financing, off-take, technical and commercial issues.
Before signing the new agreement, Canyon has been cooperating with MCC Changtian International Engineering Company for a period of time. Canyon began to cooperate with MCC’s departments in 2020 and signed a feasibility study contract involving the operation of the first phase of the Mini Martap project.
Canyon managing director Phillip Gallagher said that the new agreement is good news for the Cameroon project. “Since the end of 2020, Canyon has been cooperating with MCC Changtian International Engineering Company to develop BFS for the Mini Martap project. The signing of this strategic partnership and memorandum of understanding is a particularly positive step in the next phase of work. Changtian International will introduce real options for project financing and offtake. Phillip Gallagher further stated: “Changtian International is a part of China Metallurgical Corporation under China Minmetals Corporation. Minmetals and China Metallurgical Corporation own and operate different metal mines, alumina refineries and aluminum smelters. They have extensive experience.
