Causes of metal splashing and prevention methods

When the content of TFe in the slag is too low, the slag is sticky, and the molten slag cannot return to the covering liquid surface in time after the molten pool is blown by the oxygen flow. The discharge of CO gas brings metal droplets out of the furnace mouth, forming metal splashes. Splashing metal droplets adhering to the nozzle of the oxygen lance will seriously deteriorate the cooling conditions of the nozzle and cause damage to the nozzle. The “back-drying” of the slag will produce metal splashes. It can be seen that the cause of metal splash is the opposite of explosive splash. When the lance is operated for a long time at a low level, the second batch of materials is added too early, the slag is not completely dissolved and the lance is rushed to lower the lance for decarburization, and the furnace liquid level rises without adjusting the lance position in time, metal splashing may occur.

The metal splash prevention and treatment measures are as follows:

(1) Ensure reasonable loading, avoid over loading, prevent the molten pool from being too deep and the furnace volume ratio from being too small.

(2) The rise of the furnace bottom should be dealt with in time; always measure the height of the furnace liquid level to prevent improper control of the gun position.

(3) Control the gun position, reduce the slag, and avoid the gun position is too low (TFe) is too low.

(4) Control the appropriate (TFe) content to maintain the normal slag performance.
