Because the speed of the main motor is generally higher than the required roller speed, a reducer must be installed in the main train of the rolling mill. The function of the reducer is to change the speed of the motor to the required roller speed. The structure of the reducer is directly related to the reduction ratio (i.e. main motor speed/roller speed).

The herringbone gear operates smoothly and has no axial force on the bearings. The gearbox body is generally made of cast iron, but some heavy-duty gearboxes have cast steel bodies. The tooth surface and bearings of the reducer gear are lubricated with thin oil circulation, and must be strictly sealed to prevent dirt, impurities, etc. from entering the gearbox, damaging the surface of the teeth and shaft, or causing bearing heating.
There are two types of materials for reducers and gears: cast steel and forged steel. The small powder metallurgy sector gear on the high-speed shaft can be made of 45 # cast steel; The large gears on the low-speed swiss cnc machining and turning brass 360 shaft can be integrally cast from alloy steel or hot assembled with cast iron cores and forged steel gear rings.
