Polishing method of titanium bar and titanium alloy:

(1) Fine grinding

That is, the surface of titanium and titanium alloy castings is ground by using various types of corundum rubber wheels. The problem to be noticed during grinding is still not to cause the casting to generate heat, not to cause abrasive damage to the casting surface, and to make the entire surface smooth and smooth.

(2) Barrel grinding method

The so-called barrel grinding method is to place the processed casting, abrasive, water and additives into a barrel-type grinding tank. The grinding barrel rotates and vibrates, causing friction between the mixture of the abrasive and the processed casting, and polishing the surface of the casting ,smooth. Its characteristics are no dust pollution, low labor intensity, and no heat generation in the conventional grinding process. Currently, Japan has commercial barrel grinders and abrasives for grinding titanium and titanium-containing alloy castings, other metal castings, and plastics. It has been confirmed through experiments that the grinding efficiency of the pk series abrasives is the highest, but the surface roughness is also the highest. Although the grinding efficiency of SA and B series abrasives is not as good as PK, the smoothness of the surface of titanium castings after grinding is the highest. At present, the Fourth Military Medical University has successfully developed the first dental barrel grinder in China.

(3) Mechanical polishing method

The method of polishing the surface of titanium and titanium alloys with soft cloth wheels or black hair brushes of different specifications dipped in titanium and titanium-containing alloy-specific polishing pastes. When polishing titanium castings, the surface contamination layer on the castings must be completely clear and no new grinding hardening layer has occurred, and the ideal polishing effect will not be achieved. High speed and light pressure are still used during polishing. The author has also tested the use of green polishing paste to polish titanium and titanium-containing alloy castings, and achieved relatively good polishing results. Polished titanium and titanium-containing alloy castings cannot be immediately washed with water. The surface oxide film must be completely formed before washing, otherwise the surface will become dark.
